Brewing a Better Future: The Manobo Dulangan’s Romance with Coffee

Coffee is the main source of income of the Manobo Dulangan of Kulaman (now named Sen. Ninoy Aquino). The Kulaman Manobo Dulangan Organization (KMDO) leads the first Ancestral Domain (AD) claim which was filed in 1997 and re-filed in 2003. KMDO has a total membership of 1,700 households living in the 16 out of the 22 barangays. The Manobo Dulangan cultivates coffee and contributes a substantial production to the municipality’s total coffee output. Coffee is Kulaman’s One Town, One Product (OTOP).

In partnership with the Tri-People Concern for Peace, Progress and Development of Mindanao, Inc. (TRICOM, Inc.), KMDO and the rest of the indigenous people (IP) coffee farmers are working to maximize the gains of coffee farming in this municipality which rests some 800 to 1,700 meters above sea level.
